An 18-year-old Regina man is facing weapons charges after police say they were called to a complex on the 1100 block of Broadway Avenue early Saturday morning.

Officers responded to a weapons offence call around 6:20 a.m.

Information police received indicated two males were inside the building with a firearm. Shortly after, the pair were seen getting in a taxi that drove away from the scene, according to a Regina Police Service (RPS) news release.

Police then conducted a high-risk traffic stop on Broadway Avenue before officers found a shotgun inside the taxi, the release said.

Two people were arrested, with an 18-year-old suspect charged with multiple firearm related offences including carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a prohibited device in a motor vehicle.

The 18-year-old made his first court appearance on the charges Monday morning, Regina police said.
