The only grocery store in the village of Pelly has gone up in flames again. A fire broke out on Halloween Day only a few years after it burned down on New Year’s Eve 2024. The village’s long serving mayor Trevor Auchstaetter also works as a firefighter, telling CTV News the last inferno was caused by wiring issues. The cause of the Halloween fire is unknown and is being investigated. In the meantime, the community of Pelly is without a grocery store. “It just seems like you put something on that spot and it burns down,” Auchstaetter explained. “I really feel for the guy. Second store that’s burnt on him in not even two years. So, it’s a challenge for him. It’s a challenge for the community. But we’re just trying to rally together, get things done.” Auchstaetter encourages people who have friends and family in Pelly to help out with deliveries. Pelly is located approximately 290 kilometres northeast of Regina.
