Frost Festival goes ahead with final day events despite frigid weather

WATCH: Regina’s 2025 Frost Festival certainly earned its title Sunday, as residents battled frigid conditions on the event’s final day.

While the final day of Regina’s Frost Festival saw several programming cancellations due to cold temperatures, those who braved the weather were still able to enjoy one of the coolest activities Canadian winter has to offer.

“We wanted to keep going today to give the people that were brave to get dressed up and go for a dog sled ride the opportunity,” Aaron Campbell, of Campbell’s Racing Sled Dogs, said.

“So we’re out here having fun. We have a fire going, the dogs are enjoying going around the track, and it’s been a good day.”

Campbell has been working with sled dogs since he was 13 years old and has inspired that love of sled dogs for his own son.

He shared that extremely cold temperatures will rarely ever put a halt on their sled rides, as the whole team has grown very accustomed to it.

“The dogs are moving around there, so they’re warm. They have a double coat and they’re bred for this type of weather,” Campbell explained.

“So really, this is the weather they like to run in. For us, we layer up, we have hot packs in our boots and our gloves, and hot chocolate.”

Plenty of people still came by the Wascana hub in spite of the extreme cold, to enjoy the rare opportunity.

The area was filled with long lineups Sunday of people who tossed on many layers in order to take a ride on the unique form of transportation.

“I think everybody’s really excited. lots of laughter, smiles, just a lot of excitement to be able to do something so unique as a dog sled ride.” Campbell said
