The Notre Dame Hounds will become the Warman Wolverines when the 2025-26 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season begins.
The team was officially sold in March, by Athol Murray College at Notre Dame to investors from Warman. The sale transfers ownership of the franchise, its players list and coaches.
“I met with Andrew Maryweather, principal over at the Warman high school [who use the name Wolverines] and they also have the name Wolverines and we talked about a program that would cater to elite athletes, one thing led to another and here we are,” said co-founder Jon Abrametz.
The logo is a side profile of a wolverine. The colours include red, which is a nod to the franchise’s roots, as the Hounds. “It was really important to us that we pay homage to the team’s roots as the Hounds,” said Abrametz.
The Hounds have been a part of the SJHL since 1987 and have long been regarded as a premier franchise in the league.
The team was presented to Warman city council on Monday and received approval to move forward with the relocation for the franchise.
The move to Warman is still contingent upon a successful season ticket drive according to the co-founders, which will begin on April 1.
The Hounds have just three games remaining on their schedule including stops in Estevan and Melfort on Wednesday and Friday before returning home on Sunday for the team’s final home game against the Melfort Mustangs. They did not qualify for the 2025 SJHL playoffs.
