City of Regina receiving $900K in federal funds for new community space

The Regina Downtown Business Improvement District received $920,000 to go towards the construction of the Gordon Block Project.

Prairies Economic Development Canada is investing $920,000 in a new downtown development project known as the “Gordon Block,” located next to Hill Centre Tower One in Regina.

The funding, which is spread over three years, will support the Regina Downtown Business Improvement District (RDBID) as it transforms the space into a community hub celebrating local food, arts, and culture.

“Being able to provide that link between the different food and beverage locations in the downtown, we really haven’t seen anything like this in Regina at this scale,” said Judith Veresuk, executive director of the Regina Downtown Business Improvement District.

“We really want to engage the community because it is a space for the community.”

The Gordon Block project is the focus of RDBID’s multi-phase downtown revitalization - dubbed “The Skuare.”

“This investment marks a pivotal moment in our journey to reimagine downtown Regina,” Mayor Chad Bachynski said in the announcement.

“The Skuare represents more than just bricks and mortar, this inviting space demonstrates our commitment to building a vibrant, inclusive, and resilient city core. With support from PrairiesCan and our dedicated local partners, we’re creating a space that reflects the energy, creativity and spirit of Regina.”

Construction is set for next Spring with a grand opening in the Summer of 2026.
