Chief of Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation arrested for financial fraud

WATCH: The File Hills First Nations Police Service have arrested the Chief of Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation.

Chief Scott Eashappie from Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation has been arrested by the File Hills First Nations Police Service and is facing several charges, including fraud and money laundering.

According to a release from File Hills Police Service on Wednesday afternoon, Eashappie, 37, was arrested in relation to an “ongoing financial crime investigation.”

Eashappie is charged with fraud, theft, money laundering, and breach of trust.

He is scheduled to appear in Indian Head Provincial court on May 6, 2025.

CTV News first learned of the arrest on Wednesday through a Carry the Kettle community member.
