Canada goose who picked Regina restaurant as nesting spot welcomes goslings

WATCH: A Canada goose who nested her eggs outside of a Regina Earl’s restaurant has been relocated to water after her eggs hatched.

A Canada goose who picked a Regina restaurant as a nesting spot has welcomed seven goslings.

The goslings hatched Saturday morning outside the Earls on the east end of the city.

Wildlife Rescue Society of Saskatchewan (WRSOS) arrived at the site to help bring the family to water, as required for baby geese.

“We had support from wildlife rescue and some ladies that work at Safeway,” said Sarah Groff, general manager of Earls.

“We got the babies safely in a net, mom and dad followed calmly.”

Earlier this month, the restaurant’s front entrance became home to a mother goose and her partner after nesting seven eggs.

To create a safe space for the feathered family, Groff and her team put up a fenced barrier around the planter, asking the public to kindly respect the birds’ space.

WRSOS told CTV News that the geese could not be moved until the 28-day incubation period for the eggs finished.

“Nesting birds are protected, they’re migratory birds and therefore federally protected. Once there is an egg and a nest, you can not tamper with it or move it,” Bonnie Dell, WRSOS’s executive director said on on May 9.

She added that if migratory birds have a good nesting season, they likely will return to that same spot.
