If you know anything about an urn left on a popular Sidney walking route, RCMP would like you to get in touch with them.

Mounties were contacted by a resident who found the blue metal urn near the seawall on Lochside Drive on Saturday.

The urn, which has a silver ring on the bottom and top, weighs about 25 pounds and was found without a lid on it, according to Sidney/North Saanich RCMP.

The contents were described as a mixture of beach sand and unknown contents, and police say there's no way to identify whether or not the contents contain human ashes.

Police believe it may have been tossed into the sea but inadvertently washed up on shore. It was possibly found by someone who placed it on the seawall.

The BC Coroner's Service was contacted but weren't called in to investigate as police have deemed it a found property case.

Investigators are now looking to the public for help with tracking down the urn's owners.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sidney/North Saanich RCMP are Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
