More than 20 firefighters responded to a brush fire in Colwood on Sunday.

Officials say it broke out around 3:30 p.m. on Belmont Road near Ocean Boulevard.

Fire crews say there was a bit of a challenge with water and terrain, but that they’re fortunate they got to the scene so quickly.

“Especially with the mild wind that we have currently right now, we have a house here approximately 75 feet away,” said assistant chief Greg Chow. “We just have to be very diligent especially in this hot, dry weather.”

The blaze didn’t spread to any homes and firefighters were in the mop-up stage by 5 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
