Police are searching for the driver of a truck that allegedly side-swiped another vehicle and caused a head-on crash on the Trans-Canada Highway over the weekend.

The crash happened on the highway near Leigh Road in Langford just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

West Shore RCMP says a red Volkswagen Jetta was heading northbound when it was struck on the rear passenger side by a black pickup truck that was merging onto the highway.

The impact allegedly sent the Jetta barrelling into the oncoming traffic lane, where it struck a silver Chrysler PT Cruiser head-on.

The 59-year-old woman driving the Chrysler had to be extracted from her vehicle and was rushed to hospital by paramedics. She suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries requiring surgery, and is now in stable condition, according to police.

Three others suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash and were also taken to hospital.

The black pickup truck allegedly failed to remain at the scene.

Police are now looking to speak with witnesses of the crash to find out more about the truck, which they describe as a “vehicle of interest” in the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
