Police and search and rescue teams are responding after a kayaker was found dead in the beach area of Gonzales Park.
Police tweeted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday that they were called to the 1800-block of Crescent Road for a report of a deceased person.
They said officers were working with Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue crews to ensure no one else was at risk.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre later confirmed a kayaker was found dead on the beach.
The kayaker's identity and cause of death have not yet been confirmed.
JRCC said search crews, including the Coast Guard, are now looking for any other potentially overturned kayaks, but it's unclear whether the kayaker found dead was alone.
VicPD said they'd provide further updates as they became available. They did not confirm that the person found dead was a kayaker, but said nearby waters were being searched as a precaution.
