Vancouver Island’s homicide investigation unit is probing the suspicious death of a man in Sayward over the weekend.

Police say they found a man’s body inside of a grey 2009 Honda Accord just before 8 p.m. Saturday night.

The car was found on the west side of a one-way bridge into the village.

The victim has been identified as a 30-year-old man who was reported missing earlier that night to Campbell River RCMP, but his name is not being released until family members are notified of his death.

The cause of death remains unknown.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation, which shut down the road into Sayward Saturday night and most of the day Sunday.

VIIMCU as well as Sayward and Campbell River RCMP are now looking to speak to anyone who has information on the man’s death.

Police say he was last seen leaving a home in Campbell River Friday at around 1 p.m. in the Honda with license plate BR1 26G.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sayward RCMP at 250-282-5522, Campbell River RCMP at 250-862-6221 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

An autopsy is scheduled for later this week.
