The Agricultural Land Commission is paving the way for a major development at the Victoria Airport.

The ALR gave the green light to exclude 10 acres of its land on the Sidney side of the airport.

The Victoria Airport Authority wants to build a 100,000-square-foot shopping centre in a cluster of about 10 buildings along the boundary of the site.

The commercial retail centre would be anchored by a large grocery store, and some of the services being considered include a pharmacy, a bank and restaurants.

The development, called “Sidney Gateway,” already has a builder.

The airport says the next step in the process is to present its plans to Sidney council to receive necessary approvals, followed by a series of public consultations.
