Kingston police arrested two people following a traffic stop in the city’s downtown area on Monday.

Police say officers observed a vehicle exit a parking lot at “a high rate of speed” around Bagot Street and Ordnance Street at approximately 9:05 p.m.

Officers saw the vehicle pull into an adjacent parking lot when the driver was seen “switching seats with a passenger,” Kingston police said in a news release.

After approaching the vehicle, officers found one of the occupants was wanted on an outstanding bench warrant and another was bound by release conditions that required they “remain in their residence at all times.”

A 24-year-old suspect from Scarborough was arrested on the strength of the outstanding bench warrant. Officers also discovered 54.1 grams of fentanyl, 6.6 grams of crystal meth and 0.4 grams of cocaine, according to a photo posted to the Kingston police website.

A 24-year-old from Kingston was arrested for breaching their release conditions. A search of the suspect led to the discovery of an additional 14 grams of cocaine.

The charges for the suspects were not provided.

Both were transported to the Kingston police headquarters where they were held for a bail hearing.
