Ontario Provincial Police say charges are pending after a chain-reaction crash near Kingston, Ont. Monday evening.

Police say the collision happened at around 6 p.m. at the intersection of Road 38 and Bellrock Road in Verona, about 35 kilometres north of downtown Kingston.

A witness told police a driver was travelling east on Bellrock Road, allegedly failed to yield at the intersection with Road 38 and struck a southbound vehicle. That forced the southbound vehicle into the northbound lanes, leading to two other vehicles colliding.

Frontenac County paramedics and firefighters used the jaws of life to extricate two people from the wreckage, the OPP said.

One driver suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to a news release.

The OPP said the investigation remains ongoing. The road was closed for about two hours Monday night.
