Two police special constables are facing assault charges following an alleged incident while on duty last June in Kingston, Ont.

The Kingston Police Service says it launched an investigation after it was first made aware of an alleged incident on July 3, 2024. The two special constables were suspended while the investigation was conducted.

Police say the Ottawa Police Service was contacted to conduct an independent investigation into the incident.

On Thursday, Special Const. Chris Nadeau and Special Const. Chad Mandigo were each charged with one count of assault and one count of aggravated assault. No other information about the alleged incident was released.

Police say the special constables were arrested by the Ottawa Police Service and subsequently released with a future court date.

The two special constables are suspended without pay, according to police.
