You may see military vehicles on highways in Ottawa and eastern Ontario this weekend

Motorists are being advised that there will be military vehicles on several highways across eastern Ontario this weekend and next weekend, including along highways 17, 416 and 417, as part of military training exercises in Petawawa, Ont.

Canadian Army Reserve members from eastern, central and northern Ontario will be participating in “Exercise Wolf Ambush” at Garrison Petawawa this weekend and March 27-28.

The Department of National Defence says it’s the “training ground of the warriors.”

“This is a major Brigade-level training event featuring simulated combat operations as part of the Canadian Army’s mission for preparedness and readiness to support international operations when called upon,” the department said.

Canadian Army troops from 33 Canadian Brigade Group units in Ottawa, Brockville, Cornwall, Kingston, Belleville, Oshawa, North Bay, Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie and Peterborough will participate in the training exercise.

As part of Exercise Wolf Ambush, the public may see increased military traffic with Canadian Army vehicles on highways 7, 17, 26, 41, 55, 115, 401, 416 and 417.

“These convoys will transport approximately 300 soldiers and their equipment in Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) vehicles and buses,” the department said.

“Participating personnel will conduct planned, short stops along the routes, stopping for rest, fuel, and scheduled maintenance. Participating soldiers will not carry any weapons or ammunition while making public stops on the designated routes of travel to and from this routine combat readiness exercise.”
