Several people have been displaced after a two-vehicle crash caused major structural damage to a Lowertown townhouse complex.

The Ottawa Fire Services said it received a call from Ottawa police at 5:02 p.m. in the 300 block of Murray Street.

A moving truck hit another vehicle, causing the vehicle to strike a house, Ottawa fire says.

Firefighters on scene confirmed the vehicle caused structural damage to “multiple units.”

A structural collapse team confirmed the integrity of the building was compromised as a result of the collision.

“The debris was cleared from the area where a damaged post had collapsed. Two support posts with rescue jacks were vertically installed beside each other to support the exposed beam and the structure,” Ottawa fire spokesperson Nick Defazio said.

“A 6X8 piece of cribbing was put under the beam and above the posts. Paratech shores were put up approx. 10 ft. apart to support the beam and the structure.”

The vehicle was removed from the structure once the team stabilized the area.

Ottawa paramedics responded to the scene but there were no injuries, a spokesperson told CTV News.
