Senior in critical condition after early morning fire in Nepean

An elderly man suffered life-threatening injuries in the early morning fire on Beaver Ridge in Nepean.

A senior citizen is in critical condition in hospital after a fire Friday morning in Nepean.

Ottawa firefighters were called to a home on Beaver Ridge, near Eagle Lane, at around 6:14 a.m.

The 9-1-1 caller said there was a fire in the home and one person was still inside; however, the second person was able to make it out by the time firefighters arrived.

Firefighters found heavy flames coming from the living room window on the first floor. The flames had spread to the back of the house and to the second floor.

The fire was under control by 7:01 a.m.

Ottawa paramedics said an elderly man suffered severe burns and was taken to hospital in critical condition. Another man had some minor cuts.

Victim assistance was called to aid the two people who have been displaced, and a fire investigator is probing the cause of the blaze.

This fire was the third of three reported overnight. Firefighters also responded to a fire in a business on Carling Avenue near Woodroffe Avenue at around 3:43 a.m. and at an apartment building on Wurtemburg Street in Lowertown at around 1:35 a.m. Victim services was also dispatched to the building on Wurtemburg.

There were no reported injuries related to the other two fires.
