A G2 driver is facing a charge of stunt driving after being caught travelling 59 km/h over the speed limit in Ottawa’s south end, the latest charge for excessive speeding on Ottawa roads this year. The Ottawa Police Service’s Road Safety and District Traffic Units say an officer observed a vehicle speeding 119 km/h on Strandherd Drive at RioCan Drive over the weekend. The speed limit is 60 km/h. The 21-year-old driver is facing a charge of stunt driving and speeding. The charge of stunt driving includes a 30-day licence suspension and the vehicle impounded for 14 days. New statistics from Ottawa police show a 12 per cent increase in stunt driving charges on Ottawa roads this year. Police have issued 389 stunt driving charges to Ottawa drivers so far this year, up from 346 drivers during the same period last year. The charges include a 58-year-old man charged for stunt driving on Riverside Drive on July 18. Police said he was observed reaching a speed of 172 km/h. In February, police said a 16-year-old G2 driver was stopped travelling 146 km/h on Walkley Road near McCarthy Road. The speed limit is 50 km/h. Ottawa police officers have issued 24,640 tickets and warnings to drivers for traffic violations so far in 2026, up from 19,420 tickets and warnings during the same period last year. A total of 479 impaired driving charges were issued between Jan. 1 and July 18, up from 407 impaired driving charges last year.
