Kanata-Carleton Liberal MP Jenna Sudds is no longer a cabinet minister.
Prime Minister Mark Carney unveiled a pared down federal cabinet Friday after being sworn in at Rideau Hall.
Sudds was Minister of Families, Children and Social Development under Justin Trudeau, but Carney’s new cabinet of 23 ministers—down from Trudeau’s 36—has eliminated that portfolio. Gatineau MP Steven MacKinnon, formerly the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, has apparently absorbed Sudds’s portfolio as the new Minister of Jobs and Families.
Sudds was first elected in 2021 and became a cabinet minister in 2023. Prior to becoming an MP, Sudds was the city councillor for Ottawa’s Kanata North ward and was deputy mayor under former mayor Jim Watson.
Meanwhile, Ottawa South MP David McGuinty is staying in his cabinet role as Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.
