Ottawa firefighters battled a major house fire for nearly two hours in Barrhaven early Saturday morning. The Ottawa Fire Services say firefighters were called to the 60 block of Moonbeam Street shortly before 2:45 a.m. after multiple 911 callers reported black smoke visible from a single-family home. Firefighters arriving on scene found “heavy” black smoke visible from the first floor of the house. According to a news release, firefighters brought in a hose line to help attack the flames. About an hour later, firefighters had to be evacuated from the structure due to “dangerous conditions” inside. Ottawa paramedics say crews responded to the fire but no injuries were reported. The fire was declared under control at about 4:35 a.m. The cause and origin of the fire remains unknown. In an email, Ottawa police say officers remain at the scene as an investigation continues. No other information was provided.
