OPP lay charges in connection with use of stolen chequebook in Petawawa

Ontario Provincial Police say two people are facing charges in connection with the fraudulent use of personal cheques in the Ottawa Valley.

The investigation began in January after a resident reported their chequebook had been stolen and someone was using their cheques.

Police say, as a result of the investigation, 20 criminal charges have been laid against two people.

A 65-year-old Petawawa resident is charged with theft under $5,000, and three counts each of fraud under $5,000, forgery, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and using a forged document.

A 38-year-old Petawawa resident is charged with theft under $5,000 and two counts each of fraud under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and using a forged document.

Police withheld the names of the accused to protect the identity of the victim in this case.

Both accused individuals were released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke at an unspecified date.
