One injured following fire that engulfed entire house in rural west Ottawa

The Ottawa Paramedic Service says a male of unknow age was taken to hospital following a fire that engulfed an entire single-family home in the early hours of Sunday morning in Kinburn in rural west Ottawa.

Paramedics told CTV News Ottawa the patient sustained an injury to the knee. He was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Ottawa Fire Services says firefighters received a call shortly after 3:30 a.m. from a resident reporting their home in the 3000 block of Dwyer Hill was on fire.

When crews arrived at the scene, and confirmed that the home was fully engulfed, they declared a working fire, requesting additional resources to be dispatched.

Firefighters note that the fire happened in an area that does not have hydrants. They used a water shuttle system to bring water to the scene, then they started extinguishing the fire.

Residents sheltered in an OC Transpo bus, while firefighters fought the fire.

At 4:10 a.m., firefighters had to evacuate the “structure due to dangerous conditions.”

The fire was declared under control at 8:24 a.m.

The investigation into what led to the fire is ongoing.
