Two dozen drivers are facing charges after being stopped for driving with a covered licence plate on Ottawa roads.
Ontario Provincial Police say officers issued 25 tickets for having an obstructed plate on Wednesday.
“The OPP would like to remind the motoring public that it is an offence to obstruct your licence plate by putting a cover on it,” the OPP said on X.
“A licence plate is also considered to be obstructed if covered by snow or dirt and if it’s damaged, discoloured, or peeling.”
The fine for driving with an obstructed licence plate is $110.

Ottawa Coun. Marty Carr recently raised concerns about covered licence plates on Ottawa roads, noting thousands of tickets for speeding were cancelled due to obstructed or damaged plates.
Data provided by Carr to the Ottawa Police Services Board shows 50,796 speeding incidents out of 431,461 infractions caught by photo radar cameras between January and October were cancelled due to damaged, obstructed or missing licence plates.
Carr asked police for information on how many tickets were issued for having an obstructed or damaged licence plate by Ottawa police.
