It’s Christmas party season: Here are some holi-dos and holi-don’ts

We give you the run down of some Holi-Dos and the Holi-Don’ts with Christian Dare.

Christmas parties are in full swing, and it brings questions about holiday etiquette.

Lifestyle expert Christian Dare joined CTV Your Morning Ottawa on Tuesday to discuss some “holi-dos” and “holi-don’ts.”

Should you serve a signature cocktail at your party?

Dare’s answer: Holi-do!

“We say do this because it makes your life so much easier,” he said. “My signature cocktail for the holiday season is the espresso martini. They’re delicious, they’re very on-trend right now, and I always say make it with Grey Goose vodka. It’s clean, it’s literally made with French wheat and French spring water and that’s it.”

Should you show up empty-handed to a holiday party?

Dare’s answer: Holi-don’t!

“It’s always great to bring sort of a fun host-and-hostess game,” he said.

An example he used is a wooden wine bottle puzzle.

“It’s like, everyone loves to bring a bottle of wine, so why not put it in a puzzle that they have to figure out to drink that wine?” he said.

Dare recommends Marshalls for inexpensive gifts to give to your party host.

Should you go over the limit at a workplace Secret Santa?

Dare’s answer: Holi-Don’t!

“I say follow the rules,” he says. “This is my trick—I go to HomeSense. They have so many great options that are under the $30 mark. No one will believe you spent less than $30.”

Should you swap out the place settings at Christmas dinner?

Dare’s answer: Holi-Don’t!

“I actually went to a party recently and she purposely put people not with their partner so you would make new friends,” said Dare.

Should you give away your leftovers?

Dare’s answer: Holi-Don’t!

“What you can do is you can make leftover brunch the next day for Christmas,” he said. “You can make beautiful, great waffles the next morning with all your leftovers.”
