Gatineau police did not say how many reports are being investigated, only that they occurred in recent days.
Police are asking anyone who might have information or surveillance footage of a crime taking place to come forward and call 819-243-4636 option 5.
“If you heard a neighbor was a victim, check your surveillance cameras; you may be able to help solve the investigation,” Gatineau police said in an email to CTV News Ottawa.
Police recommend always locking your vehicle’s doors and windows and installing an anti-theft device on the steering wheel to deter thieves.
Thefts of airbags have been reported in other cities. Last summer, police in Guelph, Ont. investigated the thefts of airbags from 10 cars, all Honda Civics. Similar incidents have also been reported in the U.S., according to local media.
