A 19-year-old driver is facing a charge of stunt driving after being observed going 85 km/h over the speed limit on an interprovincial bridge connecting Ottawa and Gatineau.
The Ottawa Police Service’s Traffic Escort and Enforcement Unit says an officer observed a driver on the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge Tuesday going 135 km/h. The speed limit on the bridge once you enter Ontario is 50 km/h.
“Crossing the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge at 85 km/h over the posted limit will always draw enforcement attention,” police said on X.”
“Such was the case earlier today when a 19 year old driver was stopped by an OPS Traffic Escort enforcement specialist.”
The speed limit is 70 km/h leading to the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge on the Gatineau side of the Ottawa River, before lowering to 50 km/h on the Ontario side of the interprovincial bridge.
The vehicle was stopped near Ottawa’s busiest photo radar camera, located on King Edward Avenue.
The charge of stunt driving includes a 30-day licence suspension, and the vehicle is impounded for 14 days.

G2 driver stopped for speeding
On Saturday, a G2 driver was stopped going 50 km/h over the speed limit in Ottawa’s east end.
Police say an officer observed a “late night speedster” going 130 km/h on Innes Road, “accelerated away from the officer, wove around vehicles evasively (on the shoulder) with no lights…until caught.”
The driver is facing charges of stunt driving, careless driving and driving with no rear lights.
The speed limit on Innes Road is 80 km/h.
Great job by East NRT Saturday as a late-night (G2 licensed) speedster doing 130 in the 80km/h zone along Innes Rd accelerated away from the officer, wove around vehicles evasively (on the shoulder) with no lights…until caught & charged with Stunt, Careless & No Rear Lights. pic.twitter.com/QqAzQFCi2J
