Brockville robbery leads to hours-long standoff, 3 arrested

Published:

Three people are facing charges following a robbery that ended in an hours-long standoff in Brockville on Thursday.

Brockville police say they received a complaint that a woman had been assaulted with a baseball bat and had items taken from her at a home on Buell Street at approximately 11 a.m., according to a news release.

Police say they believed the suspects were still inside the home. An emergency response team attempted to negotiate the safe surrender of the suspects for “several hours, without success.”

The suspects were taken into custody with assistance from Ontario Provincial Police at about 9:30 p.m.

The female victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was later released.

“The police operation saw a portion of Buell Street closed for several hours. Investigators believe this was a targeted incident and as a result, there is not believed to be any further risk to public safety,” police said.

A 43-year-old man, a 36-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, all from Brockville, were arrested. The charges were not released.

The suspects were held in custody following a bail hearing. The allegations have not been proven in court.
