4-way stop proposed for Osgoode intersection that saw fatal crash

A four-way stop is being proposed for an intersection in rural south Ottawa that saw a fatal crash in late June.

An eight-year-old girl died following a crash at Dalmeny Road and Nixon Drive on June 28, just over a week after another serious crash that sent a young boy to CHEO via air ambulance.

At Tuesday’s agriculture and rural affairs committee meeting, Osgoode Coun. Isabelle Salski moved a motion that would install stop signs at the intersection.

“I think that there are moments where we need to be using our discretion and it’s incumbent upon us to do so,” she said. “This is certainly one of those moments.”

The motion calls for the approval of the installation of an unwarranted all-way stop control at the intersection and calls on staff to assess the intersection for additional safety measures.

Skalski’s motion noted that the intersection was previously reviewed for an all-way stop, but it was deemed not warranted because only eight of nine required turning movement collisions were reported at the intersection in the last three years.

The motion passed unanimously and will go to city council for final approval on July 15.
