A 23-year-old woman who was on probation has been charged in North Bay following a violent assault Nov. 22.

The incident took place around 7 p.m. when the accused showed up at the victim's residence.

"A verbal altercation ensured between the victim and accused," North Bay police said in a news release Wednesday.

"The accused assaulted the victim using mace (also known as pepper spray) and a knife. The victim was able to remove the accused from the residence, at which point the accused fled the area. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the attack."

Police found the woman later that evening and arrested her. The accused and victim know one another. Charges include assault with a weapon, administering a noxious thing and violating a probation order.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
