Wanted suspect goes into medical distress after northern Ont. arrest

Ontario's police watchdog probes Iroquois Falls arrest after suspect, held on outstanding warrants, suffers medical distress in custody.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate following an arrest in Iroquois Falls on March 30.

A man wanted on outstanding warrants was taken into custody just before 12:30 p.m. by members of the South Porcupine Ontario Provincial Police.

The following day, around 1:45 p.m., “the individual went into medical distress while in custody and required medical assistance,” police said in a news release April 2.

“The individual was transported by ambulance to a hospital. As the SIU has invoked its mandate, the OPP will not be able to provide further information.”
