A veterinary technician says she will be mortgage-free after winning the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation’s 50/50 jackpot for March.

Amber Dicks of Timmins won $111,005 in the latest monthly draw, the hospital foundation said on social media Monday.

“It took us a few calls, but we finally got in touch with Amber at work,” the foundation said.

“This lucky young lady works with her mother who she was able to approach with teary eyes to share the great news that she had just won the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation 50/50! There was nothing quiet about our call as some of the dogs in the background seemed to know they had to help Amber celebrate with some extra barking and howls!”

Dicks bought her first home last year and told foundation officials that her winnings will help her pay off her mortgage.

“It just so happens to be Amber’s birthday (on Saturday) so maybe that’s where some of her luck came from,” the foundation said.

Tickets for the April draw are already available and the jackpot at the time of publication is $54,210 with more than three weeks to grow.

February’s winner, Judith, took home $113,785.

There are nine early bird draws throughout the month and the grand prize draw is April 25.
