Firefighter in Sault Ste. Marie rescued residents of a multiple residential building that was burning Friday morning, sending two of the residents to hospital.
Crews responded to the fire on Albert Street West just after 6:30 a.m.
“Upon arrival, there was visible smoke emitting from the multi-unit residential structure,” Sault Fire Services said in a news release.

“Upon entering the dwelling firefighters encountered significant amounts of smoke. Firefighters acted quickly and rescued multiple individuals from the building. Fire crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire.”
Tenants told CTV News that the fire originated on the third floor of the building. Many said they wouldn’t be able to return to their apartments due to smoke or water damage.
The Red Cross is helping those affected by the fire.
The Ontario Fire Marshal is on the scene and the incident remains under investigation.
“There is no other information available at this time,” the release said.
