Ontario Provincial Police say that as they were arresting a snowmachine driver Feb. 23 for impaired, a second snowmobile pulled up – and that driver was promptly charged with impaired, as well.
The first driver was arrested around 1:30 a.m. in the Town of Spanish.
“Officers observed the suspect snowmobile travelling westbound on Front Street (also known as Highway 17) and initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Hamilton Street and Front Street,” police said in a news release Monday.
“Upon speaking with the driver, police determined that alcohol had been consumed and a subsequent arrest was made.”
Second snowmobile pulled up
While officers were still dealing with that case, “another snowmobile approached and stopped directly across the highway from the officers' location.”
“Upon speaking with the second driver, officers determined that this individual had also consumed alcohol, leading to another arrest,” police said.
Charged with impaired driving offences are two 39-year-old suspects, one from Toronto and the other from Innisfil.
Both snow machines were impounded for seven days, both suspects had their driver’s licences suspended for 90 days and both have an April 3 court day in the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake.
