Timmins scrap yard owner killed by equipment, ministry says

The Ontario Ministry of Labour says it is investigating after a worker was struck and killed by equipment at a Timmins wrecking yard.

The Ontario Ministry of Labour says it has completed the investigation into an industrial workplace fatality in Timmins.

Police were alerted after a body was found Friday morning at a wrecking yard called Creative Recycling on Highway 101 at Malette Lumber Road.

A spokesperson for the ministry confirmed the identity of the victim Wednesday as the business’ owner-operator and sole employee.

It was James “Jim” Cramer, 71, who was killed after being struck by equipment, CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca has learned.

“The ministry extends its sincere condolences to the family and colleagues of the worker,” the ministry said.

Cramer is described in his obituary as a car and racing enthusiast.

He worked as a painter, sandblaster and truck driver before realizing his childhood dream of owning a wrecking yard.

“Creative Recycling grew from several iterations but eventually became a high-performance wrecking yard, specializing in unique vehicles and offering reasonable prices,” his obituary said.

“He filled this yard with pieces of his heart, buying and selling items and parts he collected from all over the country.”

A celebration of life is scheduled for April 5.
