Suspects in three Sudbury murders from 2022 head to trial next month

Two men charged in three murders dating to 2022 will go on trial in Greater Sudbury next month, a court heard on Friday.

Two men charged with three murders in 2022 were in court in Sudbury on Friday to deal with legal matters, before their trial gets underway next month.

Joel Roy, 35, of Wahnapitae, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of second-degree murder and indignity to a body. Kevin Lamoureaux, 45, is also charged with murder and indignity to a body.

None of the charges has been proven in court.

Details of the court case are protected under a publication ban.

However, it involves the fatal shooting of two men at the Travelodge Hotel on Paris Street on Dec 20, 2022. A 38-year-old man died at the scene, while a 27-year-old man died of his injuries in hospital.

Also connected is the 2022 death of a 31-year-old southern Ontario man, whose body was found in a wooded area of Greater Sudbury in April 2023.

The trial begins April 7.

The fate of Roy and Lamoureaux will be decided by both judge and jury. The judge in the case is Justice Patrick Boucher.
