A 14-year-old jewelry maker in Greater Sudbury is continuing her efforts to give back to the community.
Hailey Nadeau began making her own jewelry at age 11 and has selected a number of charities to donate half of her earnings.
She sells jewelry, ornaments and bookmarks. She tells CTV News it takes her roughly 20 to 30 minutes to create a single item.
Since 2019, she has raised $3,500 for various charities.
The initiative began from her need to want to give back to organizations that helped her family. Her brother had thyroid cancer and her grandmother had received hospice care.
“He ended up getting thyroid cancer so he had a whole bunch of treatments and then he got better, so we donated to Make-a-Wish and then it ended up coming back, so we donated to SickKids,” Nadeau said.
This year, Nadeau donated $1,000 to a local family that had stage five kidney failure.
She is currently looking to raise $1,000 for Maison McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury.
“My mom stayed at the hospice for over four months and they were just great,” said Nadeau’s mother, Tracy Lavoie.
Lavoie said she is proud of her daughter.
“I’m so glad my daughter is doing this to give back and hopefully other kids have the same idea and want to give back to our community,” Lavoie said.
Nadeau currently has her stand at the Pizza Joint on Paris Street.
