Woman killed in head-on crash on Radar Road in Sudbury

One person was killed and a second taken to hospital in a two-vehicle crash on Radar Road on Wednesday evening in the Greater Sudbury community of Hanmer.

A 32-year-old woman was killed and another person was injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday evening on Radar Road in Hanmer.

Thursday morning, Greater Sudbury police said the head-on collision took place around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The roadway was closed from Guenette Drive to Jackpine Street for several hours as police investigated the scene. It has since reopened.

“During the preliminary stages of the investigation, it is believed that a SUV and a sedan were travelling in opposing directions resulting in a head-on collision,” police said in a news release.

“As a result of the collision, the driver of the SUV, a 32-year-old woman, succumbed to her injuries on scene. The driver of the sedan, a 33-year-old man, was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”

Police said the name of the victim will not be released at the request of her family.

“The traffic management unit is investigating the collision and the investigation is ongoing,” police said.
