Following the review of devices seized in October, Sudbury police laid nine new charges involving child luring and online sexual abuse material against a southern Ontario man.

Five months ago, the internet child exploitation unit of the Greater Sudbury Police Service started an investigation targeting people who were actively luring children online.

With the help of the Ontario Provincial Police child sexual exploitation unit, Sudbury police executed a search warrant Oct. 22 at a home in Angus, 18 kilometres west of Barrie.

At that time, a 36-year-old male suspect was charged with luring a child under 16 and making child pornography.

Several devices were seized from the home and after investigators reviewed the data on them, the man was arrested again April 9 and slapped with additional charges.

The new charges include four counts of child luring – two involving children under 16 and two involving kids under 18 – communicating with a minor to obtain sexual services, two more counts of making child pornography and accessing and possessing child pornography.

The accused appeared in bail court earlier this week to answer to the charges.

Cybertip.ca is Canada’s national tip line for reporting the online sexual exploitation of children,” police said in a news release.

“Tips from the public can help protect children from sexual abuse. Canadians are encouraged to report concerns to Cybertip.ca if someone they know may be victimizing children online.”
