Sturgeon Falls biz gets $500K for boiler system A Sturgeon Falls company is getting $500K in federal money to buy a new system to dry lumber for the cross-laminated timber industry.

The Government of Canada is spending $500,000 to support the growth of the forestry sector in Sturgeon Falls.

Money from FedNor will help Sturgeon Falls Brush and Contracting Limited create jobs and expand their business using new and innovative technology.

The announcement was made by Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré, who is Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources and to the Minister of Official Languages.

The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for FedNor.

“Today’s announcement will help SFB purchase a boiler system that will allow the company to dry lumber to the specific requirements of its clients in the cross-laminated timber industry,” FedNor said in a news release Tuesday.

“The boiler will use biomass from area mills as its heat source. This project is part of an ongoing expansion by SFB which will see the company grow to meet local market demands.”

Along with the boiler, the money will create three new jobs “while also enabling SFB to sell kiln-dried lumber as a new product offering, increasing revenues for the company. Over the coming years, SFB’s expansion is expected to attract new businesses and investments in Sturgeon Falls.”

“Northern Ontario’s forestry sector has provided multi-generational job opportunities and it remains a top priority for many areas including in Nickel Belt,” Serré said in the release.

“The expansion of Sturgeon Falls Brush and Contracting will mean good jobs, right here in the community, as well as the continued excellence of a long-standing business in Sturgeon Falls. I’m excited to follow their progress over the coming years.”

Founded in 1971, Sturgeon Falls Brush “prides itself as an industry leader in the fields of forestry, utility right of way and land clearing, and road building,” the release said.

“They are focused on delivering excellent results with a focus on safety, quality and environmental sustainability.”
