Senior suffered life-threatening injuries in Azilda head-on crash, Sudbury police say

MR35 in the Azilda area of Greater Sudbury reopened after being closed most of Thursday following a head-on crash.

Sudbury police say an elderly passenger suffered life-threatening injuries in a head-on crash in Azilda on Thursday morning.

The two-vehicle crash happened shortly after 10 a.m. at the intersection of MR35 and Montee Principale.

“Through the investigation, it has been determined that an SUV travelling westbound on MR 35 turning onto Montee Principale collided with an SUV travelling eastbound on MR 35,” Sudbury police said in a news release Friday.

“The driver of the westbound SUV, a 33-year-old man, was not injured. The driver of the eastbound SUV, a 28-year-old woman, was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

An 81-year-old woman was a passenger in the eastbound SUV and sustained serious injuries in the crash.

The road was closed for several hours Thursday and has since reopened.

An investigation by the integrated traffic safety unit is continuing.

There is no word on if any charges are pending.
