Search warrant executed in northern Ont. First Nation leads to drug, weapons charges

A search warrant executed by the Greenstone Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), last week, detachment has resulted in charges against a 30-year-old man from Long Lake 58 First Nation.

On Feb. 5, shortly after 1:00 p.m., uniformed officers carried out a search at a residence on Beaver Street in the community.

“The investigation resulted in the arrest of one individual and the seizure of a firearm and further evidence of drug trafficking,” OPP said in a news release.

An unspecified quantity of suspected cocaine was seized as a result of the search.

The accused, a local man, faces the following charges of drug trafficking, unauthorized possession of a firearm and carless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition.

The accused was remanded into custody and later released. They are scheduled to appear in the court again on Feb. 19.
