Sault police say a 39-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving after he was found asleep at the wheel, motor running and stuck on top of a snowbank.

Officers were alerted by a 911 call that came in around 4 a.m. March 12, police said in a news release Thursday.

The report said someone was “asleep inside a running vehicle in a parking lot outside of a business in the 600 block of Trunk Road,” police said.

“Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle in question, which was running and partially parked atop a snowbank on a curb.”

Open liquor, cannabis vape

Police said the driver appeared to be impaired and was arrested. A search of the vehicle and the accused uncovered three open containers of alcohol and a cannabis vape.

Breath samples taken at Sault police headquarters all registered fail readings.

Charges include impaired driving, driving with liquor and cannabis available to the driver, and dangerous driving.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on April 14.
