A 66-year-old man has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and theft following an incident earlier this month, according to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

On March 4 at about 10:20 a.m., police responded to a 911 report of an assault at a multi-unit residence building in the 100 block of John Street.

“Officers were dispatched to the scene,” said police.

An investigation revealed that the accused had engaged in a verbal altercation with a victim, who is known to them, before allegedly strangling the victim with their hands and stealing their wallet and another personal item.

No physical injuries were reported.

Police obtained a warrant for the accused’s arrest and police located and charged him on March 17.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on May 12 to answer the charges.
