The shooting happened around 7 p.m. Jan. 2 on the property of centre which houses a health care facility, emergency men’s shelter and transitional housing.

“The victim was transported to hospital with serious injuries,” police said in a news release Monday morning.

Detectives believe it to be an “isolated incident” between two people who know each other.

No shelter staff or clients were harmed in the shooting, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) confirmed in a news release.

The centre is closed to the public Monday, CMHA said, but the shelter is separate and remains open.

“The organizations that work out of the CRC remain committed to the safety and security of staff and shelter guests, and we will continue our work to provide a safe and welcoming environment for those in need,“ the mental health organization said.
