Sault man charged with assault causing bodily harm

A 54-year-old Sault Ste. Marie man has been charged with assault causing bodily harm following an incident at a multi-unit residence on East Street.

According to a news release from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 4:50 p.m. on March 1, after reports of an assault in the 0-100 block of East Street.

Police say an investigation revealed that the accused was involved in a verbal argument with another individual before allegedly assaulting them with a cane.

“The victim sustained serious physical injuries and was transported to hospital ,” said police.

Police have not provided any further details about the victim or the circumstances leading to the argument.

The accused was arrested at the scene and charged with assault causing bodily harm. He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on April 28.
