Prohibited Ontario driver charged for operating UTV

A 47-year-old northern Ontario man faces multiple charges after Ontario Provincial Police say officers stopped a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) in the Cache Bay area.

Officers from the Nipissing West OPP detachment responded to a traffic complaint at about 7:35 p.m. on April 10 regarding a UTV driving around the neighbourhood.

OPP said the vehicle was located and stopped by police.

“The driver was found to be both a prohibited and suspended driver and was arrested,” police said in a news release Monday.

As a result of the investigation, the West Nipissing man was charged with operation while prohibited, four counts of driving while under suspension and having his number plate improperly displayed.

In addition to the charges, the UTV was impounded for 45 days at the owner’s expense.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in North Bay on May 7.
