Prohibited driver charged after Highway 17 traffic stop

A 59-year-old man from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory on Manitoulin Island is facing charges after Ontario Provincial Police conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17 law week.

OPP said, in a news release, the stop took place around noon on May 29 while officers were on general patrol in Sudbury.

Police said an investigation determined the driver was prohibited from operating motor vehicles.

As a result, the motorist was charged with operation while prohibited.

In addition to the charges, OPP said the vehicle was impounded for 45-days at the owner’s expense.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on June 24.
