Police ID remains discovered near Thessalon, Ont., earlier this month

Ontario Provincial Police say Corey Hynes, 52, of Sudbury, was found dead earlier this month in an area of St. Joseph Island.

A body discovered Jan. 6 near P Line Road in Jocelyn Township belonged to a Sudbury man, police said in a news release Monday.

The remains belonged to Corey Hynes, 52, of Greater Sudbury, East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police said.

Police have described the death as suspicious and said Monday that the investigation is ongoing.

His remains were found Jan. 6 around 2:45 p.m.

“The East Algoma OPP crime unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP criminal investigation branch in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service,” the release said.
